? Is there an efficient, quick way to edit Favorites

Sam

I don't like the ORGANIZE feature of editing my favorites. It's pretty
slow. I tried editing the HTML file (saved as bookmark.html) in Front
Page, but the file got corrupt and I wasn't able to IMPORT it back to
IE.

Is there an efficient and better way to edit and then save the
Favorites?

Omigod there must be thousands of third-party Favorites organizers on
the web, many of them for free. Use a search engine to find them.

A tip on installing 'free' software: Often, free software comes with a
price, in the form of viruses or spyware. Download the installer to your
hard disk (I use a folder called Installers for this purpose), then scan
it with your antivirus program and your anti-spyware programs (good idea
to have several anti-spyware programs). When you come to install the
program, read the EULA carefully.

Hi Sam :)

Try the following and see if it does what you want.

FavOrg: Free
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Bookmark-Managers/favorg.shtml
This allows you to save them permanently in a different folder and
re-associate your favorites with the stored icons. It also verifies whether
your links in Favorites are still good.

Another good one is AM Deadlink: Free
http://www.aignes.com/deadlink.htm

Hope this helps.

Thanks to all for the replies. I'll give the free utilities a try.
Don't know why I didnt think of using Windows Explorer. Doh!

Thanks for suggestion to use Explorer. That's what I did and it only took a
minute to, at least, put the favorites in alpha-numeric order. This makes it
easier to spot sites, delete, move them around. I often find the add ons (not
necessarily those suggested) to have more features than I want and to be more
trouble than they are worth.

Among the free programs was one available to upload, for free, video and
still pictures. Since I wondered why anyone would want to do this, I looked.
This turned out to be some kind of brainstorm to sweep in all the porn
possible for nothing and then sell ads, as far as I could tell. Someone
always ready to make a buck, but I'll bet it doesn't. LOL

To sort Favorites alphabetically, open Favorites from the menu item, not the
toolbar icon. Then right click any of them and choose Sort by Name.

If you want them to automatically alpha-sort even as new entries are added,
you need a registry edit. Navigate to:

HKEY CURRENT USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Menu
Order\Favorites

and delete the value named 'Order'. Also delete this value for any
subfolders. Then, with the favorite key highlited, click on Edit >
Permissions and deny 'Full Access' to Administrators, yourself, etc. This
will prevent the key from being automatically recreated.
