Transfer of MS Office

I have got a copy of Microsoft Office 97 , Professional Edition ( genuine -
not pirated! ) I used this on my old W98 machine which I would like to
recycle with just the operating system. However, when I tried to load MS
Office I was informed by my XP system that I don't have a license to run
this software on this machine. Surely there is no further permission needed
to transfer programs ? or am I mistaken ?

Anyway, I obtained the Open Office org Suite as an alternative , but I am
still curious.

Uh, no, the font doesn't cause the problem. But forcing the
re-installation of the font causes the real problem to be fixed.
Anything that would force the re-installation would fix it.
