Tracked Changes in Word 2002

I'm new to tracked changes, and I want it to stop!

Tracked changes in enabled in a particular document. When
I check Tools > Tracked Changes, the option is grayed out
(unavailable). If I open a new document in Word, I can
turn the feature on or off, but in the existing document,
I can't seem to change the setting.

I copied (cntl-A) the old doc into a new doc and was able
to access the Tools > Tracked Changes option. I turned it
off, observed the TRK was dimmed in the status bar on the
bottom of the Word window and then saved the document.
When I re-openned it, some markups still appear.

Is there a way to stop this 'feature'?

Thanks for your help!

Here's an update. I found the 'remove hidden data' program
on the Microsoft site. When I ran it, it failed giving
this error:

R:\5250\ETO and Emissions\ETOII\RUP\ETO-II Level II\ETO-II
Vision.VIS scanned at 8:08:28 AM on 6/9/2004
Protected Document failed. Reason: This document contains
protected information. If you are not the author of this
document, contact the author to obtain permissions.
R:\5250\ETO and Emissions\ETOII\RUP\ETO-II Level II\ETO-II
Vision.VIS scanning aborted

The document is mine, but it is based on a template
provided by the good people at IBM.

So I'm no better off. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Hi, Bob. Try this:
1. Copy all to new document (like you did already).
2. Turn off tracked changes in the new document.
3. On the Reviewing toolbar, there is an Accept Change button (it's the
one with a checkmark). Immediately to the right of this button is a
little black downward-pointing triangle. Click on the triangle, and one
of the choices on the drop-down menu is "Accept All Changes in
Document". Click it, and all of the tracked changes should be gone.
4. If there are comments, click on the little black triangle next to
the Reject Change button (it's the one with a red X) on the Reviewing
toolbar. One of the choices in the drop-down menu is "Delete All
Comments in Document". Click it, and all of the comments should be gone.

Hey Thanks! Your recommendation worked, but...
After I copied the the information to a new file, I found
that the 'Accept All Changes' feature didn't work, but I
could accept the changes individually. There were no
comments. I saved my new documment and life was good.
But...

I imported the document into IBM's RequisitePro system,
and after a few document changes and saves, the tracking
feature returned and again the option to turn the feature
off was disabled on the Tools menu.

I think I've convinced myself that RequisitePro interface
to Word is causing the condition. I'm trying to reach
IBM/Rationale/RUP support through our corporate channels.

Thanks again for your help.
