Total Uninstall RTFM thingy.

This message is for those who, like me, missed this little detail about
Total Uninstall.

I am using version 2.34 which is freeware as far as I know. Many in this
group use this program to safely and completely uninstall programs that
don't pan out for one reason or another.

The program has been locking up frequently when I've installed a
program, reboot a couple of times and then decide to uninstall the new
software. Turns out what was responsible for this was my Kerio log file,
which is always in use during normal system operation and thus, can't be
modified or removed without going through the Kerio UI.

To avoid this problem, Total Uninstall must simply be configured to
disregard the Kerio folder.

*It's very simple to do this with _any_ file or folder.*

1. In the "uninstalling" window (the part of Total Uninstall that shows
the changes a program installation has made to files and to the
registry), right click on a folder or file name that you know always
changes during rebooting and which is never really influenced by program
installation in a way that makes any difference (eg. the _RESTORE
folder, or "POWERPNT.INI")

2. In the menu that pops up, select "Add to ignore list".

Not only will Total Uninstall from that point on ignore that file or
folder during program installation monitoring, but the it will remove
all references to those folders or files in already existing program
installation logs.

If you change your mind about that folder or file, go into "Options" on
the first window, click on the "Scanner" tab and remove the
corresponding entry. I don't thing this would restore references to such
files or folders in already existing installation logs though.

If I'd RTFMed the program, I would have figured all this out long ago.

Damned typos.

Slightly OT - This doesn't seem to be free - have I missed something?

You missed the version.
2.34 (mentioned by John Corliss) or even 2.35 (which I use) are freeware.

Maybe 2.35 is 'promotionware', since it shows a 'Try Total Uninstall 3' in
the left bottom corner. That's all.

Always RTFM!!! ;-)
With TUN it's really important, for what you pointed out and also for other
things, like file associations and the order in which you installed some
programs.

I learned by my errors that TUN is wonderful and in the same time is
dangerous, if used without care.

Everyone knows that debugging is twice as hard as writing a program in
the first place. So if you're as clever as you can be when you write
it, how will you ever debug it? (Brian Kernighan)

Thanks, John - That's a good catch, and one I wasn't aware of since I don't
use Kerio.
