Total freeze when unplugging the internet cable while surfing

Hi,
Please help me in this problem:
- if i unplug the internet cable while connected to the internet (DSL
provider), the computer totally freezes and the only solution is to
hard-reboot

This didn't happen when using another notebook and with XP Pro SP1 and the
same connection software and DSL provider/driver; in that case, the
unplugging didn't cause any disturbance apart from stopping the connection.

Is there any setting to solve this?
Or is it related with the type of the connection driver?

Thanks!

Try un-installing and re-installing the network adapter in Device
Manager. Try downloading and installing an updated driver from the
manufacturer's web site.

A workaround would be to disable the network connection before
unplugging the cable.
