OEM XP is being cut off. This happened just after a number of system
builders began offering XP as an option again. Hmmmmmm

Hi John. What do you mean by "cut off"?

Can somebody provide me with a HACH to get rid of Windows Media Player
please .
Ain't gonna happen. Just don't use it. Associate all of your media files
with another media player of your choice.

Hello...

What I have been seeing is that everyone is dumping DRM! lol
Apple did it for itunes I think , and MS is doing it too for its online
content.
I bet Bill Gates kids use downloaded music too.. everyone does it, and they
know it...

Hey I dont use media player either... I use gomplayer www.gomplayer.com

but for those who dont know much and just want to see a video windows media
player is good for them.

Think of it this way... if microsoft went and made the best player in the
galaxy then
it would destroy the competition and then no one would ever make other
players...

They are already on MS's back because of media player. In europe they have
been ordered,
to REMOVE media player from Vista and thats why they have "Vista N" versions
(without media players).

I really cant understand this antibundle policy.... I dont see anyone
complaining because ubuntu came with firefox or
amarok! lol

But I can see that as a problem... some people complain.. why take it out..
leave it, and if you
want another player install it!

IF you are so anti media player you can use VLITE a free tool to remove any
component out of the vista dvd
and create a customized install DVD or you can even make it as small as a
CD!

Also you can use formats that cannot be DRM-ized.... there will ALWAYS be
ways.. dont worry :-)

The HACH is called VLITE (FREE) as I described in the other post to you.

http://www.vlite.net/
Screenshots http://www.vlite.net/about.html

You can remove almost any element from windows and make a custom dvd or cd
and install vista as you like it :-)

No you cant remove them after you install vista.. you have to make a custom
install dvd.

its possible.. read my reply to him

:-)

1. improve stability by 500% by using the format C: command and installing
XP...

Forgive the ignorance, but how do I do that? I've been wanting to try and
re-install XP for weeks! Of course I can't do it from Vista. When I try to
boot from the XP disk it says it cannot detect my hard drive!

Top 10 Vista Hacks

1. Hack User Account Control

2. Unlock the supersecret Administrator
account

3. Tweak Aero's glass borders

4. Protect your privacy by removing Windows
Vista metadata

5. Power up Windows Vista's context menu
Folders also show an "Open Command Prompt Here" option if you open the
context while holding down shift. It opens a command prompt with that
folder as the current directory, in case that's not obvious ;o)
6. Speed up or turn off Windows Aero
I prefer the "Windows Standard" look (and find that it responds faster),
but does anyone know if there's a way to get the live thumbnails on the
taskbar and task switcher etc. to work with that style? I suspect they
require the Aero theme to be selected, but part of me feels it should be
possible to have Aero effects with a different look... maybe I'm just
trying to have my cake and eat it, but if anyone knows I'd certainly
like to know ;o)
7. Bypass the Windows Vista log-on screen
on multiaccount PCs

8. Hack Vista's blinking cursor
I haven't had a problem seeing the blinking cursor, but have found the
"Text select" mouse pointer difficult to see as I move it around a
screen full of text. I changed it to the "beam_r" cursor and find that
much easier to see. Just thought others might have had the same problem.
To change it, go Control Panel > Mouse > Pointers tab, highlight "Text
Select", click "Browse..." and use the cursor from
C:\Windows\Cursors\beam_r.cur (or experiment with other cursors to find
one you like)
9. Hack Vista's screensavers
I guess I was being a little too trusting when I believed the message
saying "This screen saver has no options that you can set". It does seem
odd that they've removed the options to customise screen savers, and
even more odd that it's still possible but only through registry hacks...
10. Make Windows animation go slo-mo
Now there's a new one... a hack to make Vista slower!? ;o)

10. Make Windows animation go slo-mo
These are fun things you can do but I'd be remiss to label them as
"hacks" as the author did as it is rather misleading.
"Hacks" generally imply a registry change and these are simply
customizable click and change features of Vista.
Which is a good thing!

<Confusing quotes snipped>

Assuming that's a serious question, I'd advise you to do a clean install
in a separate partition, and don't enter any product key when asked.
That will allow you to use Vista legally for 30 days so you can decide
for yourself whether you like it or not. Simple, and safe.

Thanks and yes it is a serious question, now how exsactly do you do that or
does instructions to do that come with Vista? I have a Dell E510 dual core
comp.
Thanks for your help

Only one real obstacle: do you have enough empty disk space? Vista
needs about 15GB for a serious trial. Typically XP will occupy the
entire disk, so you need to shrink the XP partition by 15GB and then
let the Vista installer create a new partition in that empty space.
The rest is trivial ;o)

How much of the above do you understand? Be honest!

Yes I have and I need a new video canrd and several up dates from some
programs I am just a little scared for I don'w want to screw up my comp. You
know loose any photos or files.
Just checking things out while Vista is in sipment.

Have you heard of Norton Ghost? I am wondering if I should keep it because
it can use a lot of space..
Thanks for you help!
