Hello
Have been playing with two old pcs before being allowed to network one to my daughter's laptop. Oldest has win 98, but hd would not work on newer one as boot record could not be found and then incorrect disk. Got over this by changing from master to slave - booted ok. Does this make sense?

err, nope!

As a single drive it should be master ... if two drives are fitted one will be master the other slave ... this includes CDrom drives also.

Need more information on how this was 'fitted' into the PC. :)

Dear Muckshifter,
Thanks for your reply. You told me ages ago that I would eventually 'bugger up' both hdds. I just plug them in and play about in the BIOS until something happens. The oldest pc no longer recognises its 'own' hdd when it's set to master, but will boot when it's set to slave. I have confused it and do not expect an answer, as this is not a problem, but all part of the learning curve.
