toolbar is gone, I tools, customize, options, show toolbar light

My formatting toolbar disappeared off my microsoft word 2003 screen. I go to
Tools, then customize, then in the options screen, the "Show standard and
formating toolbars on tow rows" is light so that I can not click it.
