To zachd[MSFT] about irritating items in Vista OS . . .

If you release for sale to the general public a system that you advertise as
being the "Whizz-Bang of all Whizz-Bangs" - (as Microsofts commercials
portrayed this new Vista OS to be) - Then in the words of Captain Jean-Luc
Picard of the Starship Enterprise . . . "Make it so!" DON'T dangle a bone
in front of a dog like Pavlov did to make him salavate, then not feed him!

If Vista was supposed to be this great deal, then make it a great deal!
Since installing it, almost everyone is having nothing but problems (read
the threads in these postings, and this is just the general section) - like
dissapearing icons, toolbars, etc. and peripherils that no longer function.
That last part I just don't understand - If my printer/scanner worked fine
with XP, why shouldn't it do so with Vista? What could be so radically
different with this OS from the last OS? My nephew (whom I have titled "Sir
Eric the Computer Whiz") informs me it is nothing but a gambit to suck up
more money for the richest man in the known universe. Why? So now you guys
at Microsoft tell me that I need to go back to the printer/scanner
manufacturer to get either a new printer/scanner or the update from them to
make this one work with your new "Whizz-Bang of all Whizz-Bangs", and that
just does not make any sense to me. Printer paths are printer paths, and
scanner paths are ditto. The manufacturers have to pay "MSFT" to get the
know how to make thier periferals work with your new expensive "Whizz-Bang"
if it wants to keep its customers coming . . .

And the beat goes on and on and on . . . ad infinitum.

I am seriously looking at the alternative OS systems out there. I don't
believe I am the only one. Inform BG his income is about to be drastically
reduced.

You browse through Microsoft help groups and are surprised to see people
asking for help? How funny is that!

Do you think that if you go to a Linux help group, or a Apple help group
that all the people are just showering praise on the manufacturers? Not so.
People there post their problems also.

Using your criteria, Apple/Linux computers suck - because everyone there has
problems.

"If my printer/scanner worked fine with XP, why shouldn't it do so
with Vista?"
Some do and some don't.
Like most other operating systems, the newer one has changes and the
software and hardware that no longer works needs updates/patches from
their manufacturers.
100% backwards compatibility as you suggest is simply impossible.
You have several options a few being:
1. Get updated drivers/patches from the manufacturer.
2. Replace older hardware/software
3. Stay with the operating system older hardware and software was
designed.

While you want more backwards compatibility, there are those that want
none.
Backwards compatibility has problems of its own including but not
limited to larger operating system and possible vulnerabilities.
Some want a trim completely new OS while others as yourself want it
bulkier with more backwards compatibility.
Everyone can not get what they want but the newer OS is somewhere in
the middle of those extremes.

Vista compatibility, as with any operating system, largely depends
on the hardware manufacturer.
This happens with every new operating system and is not new with
Windows Vista.
Have you contacted the hardware manufacturer?
What did they say?

Not sure I follow your logic here. You're understanding of these issues is
confused. Just because people post in this newsgroup with problems doesn't
mean everyone is having them. You certainly can't draw that conclusion from
the facts you presented, nor is it in fact true. I have been using Vista
through Beta and the RTM since November. It runs well, and the same can be
said for many others.

Hardware drivers are the responsibility of the hardware device manufacturer.
MS doesn't write the drivers. If your printer/scanner is not supported in
Vista complain to the printer manufacturer. This as always been the case
with a new OS. Some devices will work as is, some manufacturer's will
provide new drivers for some of their legacy hardware, and some won't.

Have fun.

Hey, no kidding! I was in the Apple forums the other day, reading the Mac
Mini forum, and, geez, if one went by all the posts in there, one would
NEVER consider buying a Mac Mini... they sure aren't in there going "My Mac
Mini is schweeeeet! Run out and buy one today!" LOL...

I wish you well regardless of your system choices, preferences, or feelings.
It's a complicated world. I respect your pain and concerns, but generally
don't know anything about those areas. I know multimedia fairly well: your
printer/scanner provider may have specific details for you that would likely
be more interesting and illuminative than anything Eric or I could add.

I'll do my best to help minimize specific pains where I can, but am going to
focus on multimedia (audio/video related: WMP, MCE, DVD Maker, etc) issues
where possible, since that will generally be the most effective use of my
time. You don't really want a foot specialist working on your arm. =)

Best regards,

we are NOT only asking for help...

WE ARE SAYING THAT ITS A PIECE OF CRAP!!!

and we are not linux or Mac advocates... we are MICROSOFT supporters.
But with vista they blundered.. We want the vista that SHOULD have been!

Long live Microsoft to make good quality products..
NOT vista quality products!
