Time synchronizing problems.

I

Interspatial

XP Pro, no other net related programs running, no firewall etc. As raw as it
can get and:

I used to be able to synch time by clicking synch now.

Now if I try to synch to TIME.NIST.GOV windoze says "An error occurred while
windows was synchronizing with TIME.NIST.GOV".

If I try TIME.WINDOWS.COM the error message reads "An error occurred while
windows was synchronizing with time.windows.com. The time sample was
rejected because: The peer's stratum is less than the host's stratum".
(What a helpful error message).

I have checked the date is correct and windows help doesn't, as usual.
This happens with no other net traffic occuring. It happens no matter what
time of day I try. It used to work and now it's broke.

Any ideas?

OK I did....

C:\WINDOWS\system32>w32tm /config /syncfromflags:manual
/manualpeerlist:time.nis
t.gov
The command completed successfully.

C:\WINDOWS\system32>w32tm /config /update
The command completed successfully.

But it still gives error message when I try to update from Date and Time
Properties.

Any other ideas anyone?

It is possible you have a corrupted file in XP. You my want to run SCANNOW.

Per Michael Solomon:

"The following assumes you have an actual XP CD as opposed to a restore CD
or restore partition supplied by your PC manufacturer.

Go to Start, type sfc /scannow in the run box and press enter. Note, there
s a space between sfc and the forward slash. You will be asked for your XP
CD. Be aware, upon inserting the CD the XP setup screen may appear, this is
ot a part of sfc /scannow, rather it is being invoked by autorun. Simply
minimize the screen and allow sfc to continue."

Yeah, I was getting the same effect yesterday with both.

Today time.windows.com is still doing it but time.nist.gov is fine.

On two separate XP machines.
(What a helpful error message).

Yeah, tad cryptic. The nist message is even less useful tho.

Same there too.

Be interesting to know how many others havent
noticed it happening with time.windows.com

Here's a quick and dirty but effective fix: Download and install a
separate time synchronizer program such as Time Synchronizer V2. It
works even when the built-in Windows synchronizer won't.

Get it from http://www.itoolpad.com/products/timesync/

It's freeware and works great. Configurable as to auto-start, minimize
to tray, etc.

Both systems are fine today, must have just been a fault.

OK I have full CD.
I run sfc /scannow as instructed.
Chugs along for 30s - 1 minute then asks me to insert the CD !!!!
Re insert the CD, same thing. And again and again and again...... Ad
nauseum.
Sheeesh, I try to fix one problem and now I have two.

DOS 6.22 was the best OS ever. :)
