"Thumbs"

J

James Parsons

Whenever I copy a file I get a message that says "The file "thumbs" has
information attached to it that might be lost if you continue copying. Info
that might be lost is......". Then it give the info.

What is "Thumbs" and what does that message mean to me when I am copying?

Thanks,

Jim P.

Thumbs.db is a hidden file. It is the file that displays the files in
thumbnail view if you choose that view. They are not needed, can be deleted,
and do not need to be copied over. Set hidden files to show to see the
thumbs.db files.

Thumbs is the Thumbnail file/database. This file helps to display a short
description of the file(s) with-in the directory. Also, if the file is a
JPEG/BMP image file, then a small preview of the image is also displayed.
You can ignore the message and delete the old file. The new location of the
file(s) will/should have a new Thumbs file re-created the next time you
"explore" the directory/folder.
