"thumbs" sys file

Don't know if my first message got through so here it is
again: I'm using WinXP Home Edition ver. 2002 Service
Pack 1 on my HP Pav. 8754c computer with 384 MB RAM. In
trying to copy picture files I'd made on my computer to a
CD-RW disk, I got a message indicating that if I
continued to copy this data to CD-RW, I risk losing info
in my "THUMBS Sys. File". Did I want to continue
copying? I answered "yes". What is this THUMBS file and
how will it affect my copying data to the CD-RW? Thanks.

Hi Steve!
It is file containing the small images displayed when you view a
folder in "thumbnail" view.
You may turn off this feature:-
Click the Start button
Select Control Panel
Select Folder Options
Click the View tab
Check "Do not cache thumbnails"
Click the OK button

It is Thumbs.db which is created in any folder that you view in
'Thumbnail mode' so as to cache the thumbnails and speed up subsequent
opening of the folder in that View.

The extra information is going to do no harm - whether the file is worth
including on a CD is debatable, but unless the CD is going to be very
full including it is probably the easiest course.

They are 'superhidden' files, so you need to have Folder Options - View
set to show Hidden files, and *not* Hide Protected mode ones in order to
see and delete them. You can also turn off the caching of thumbnails in
Folder Options - View, but I wouldn't if you use this view mode at all
regularly
