thumbnail view not showing thumbnails

As noted in the subject line, my Win 2000 installation
appears to be having a problem.

When attempting to use the Thumbnail view from Windows
Explorer the icon of the application associated shows up
in the place where the thumbnail would appear normally.
Also, the sidebar section of the window in question
doesn't show a thumbnail either.

I believe this became the case after a reinstallation of
Windows 2000 when other problems arose.

Any help you might be able to provide would be welcome.
