The guys at Microsoft had little they could do about this.
They didn't write virus or send it out. They have issued
patches and have a pretty good selection of suggestions that
will help prevent you becoming infected.
But to stop the virus just about every Internet user and all
the servers world-wide must be patched, scanned and set to
stop the virus.
Best you can do is try to mitigate the effect it has on your
computer. Run your firewall of choice, run a daily update
of your virus scan and run the virus scan in a always on
background scan of all files up and downloaded (email and
otherwise too) Check for real Microsoft updates on Windows
Update. Remember that MS will not send you attachments.
You can try various email settings, message rules and even
third-party software to screen your email. You can usually
just download the headers and delete the obvious spam and
viruses, and that saves you some time.
If you use Hotmail and the junk mail rules most of these
viruses will end-up in the bulk/junk folder. To prevent
exceeding the 2 MB limit, just set the rule so junk goes
directly to the deleted folder.
| when will they stop? I mean this is the first the first
| time ever that I have seen these things, heard of them
| but never knew it would be like this!!! I thought
| something like this was controlable, not like this last
| week-end, I felt like I was being attacked!!! I thought
| it would be over by monday but I guess the guys at micro-
| soft had a golf game or something.
