This "Working on your request" NONSENSE Has Got to Stop...

J

jlwn777

OK.

No, it's not my broadband connection.
No, it's not my browser (or a need to "clear my cache").
No, it's not only happening to me --- it's happening to at least half
a dozen others that I know of --- and they are from totally different
parts of the country.
No, it's got nothing to do with connectivity or a "local" issue --- AT
ALL.

Here's what it is:

REALLY SUPER-ANNOYING.

Quite often, especially at what seem like they might be peak usage
times, Windows Live Hotmail is inexplicably hanging on the "Working on
your request" message --- with mixed results. Sometimes, eventually,
it completes the task (the mail gets sent, etc.). Other times, it
simply hangs. And it never stops hanging. Ever. Sometimes, it doesn't
even say "Working on your request" --- it just sits there. And then, 5
minutes later, it sends the mail. Absolutely unacceptable and
something that NEVER (ever) used to happen in the pre-"Windows Live
Hotmail" environment.

PLEASE FIX THIS --- ASAP!!!

Thanks in advance,
*ME*

I apologize for not attending to this in a more timely fashion. I'll
have it fixed within the hour.

P.S. In the mean time, have you checked your internet connection or
cleared your IE cache as I think you are the only one this is happening to.

Which anti-virus software are you using?

BTW Who do you imagine you are talking to when you post to these groups?

This is most likely caused by your Anti Virus scanning incoming and outgoing emails. Disable this AV integration of your email client. You will still be protected with your resident AV

If you are using Norton or MacAfee then you might need to uninstall their AV suite and re-install without the email integration for it to take effect.

E

Earle Horton

In McAfee you just check email protection off, and then every time you boot
up you see a message that "Your computer is not protected". Don't know
about Norton.

Cheers,

Earle

Unfortunately, from past experience we know that disabling email
scanning in McAfee and Norton is not sufficient.

Isn't the op referencing the Windows Live Hotmail client(or the use of a
hotmail account in WLM)?
Are we sure that local user installed AV programs with email scanning
are applicable to scanning http accounts?

I've seen the same issue that the op is referencing on an msn.com http
account in WLM on Vista with Kaspersky AV(no email scanning). This is
also coincidental with a few reports over the last month msn.com and
hotmail.com http accounts not delivering outbound mail in a timely
fashion.

I don't know. I was responding to Peter's and Earle's comments.
Now that I've looked at the OP's original problem statement again,
it does look like something else besides interference from an AV
program.

BTW Who do you imagine you are talking to when you post to these groups?

I "imagine" that I'm "talking to" anyone who will listen. Which,
obviously, included you.

I need to add something to this list:

No, it's not my broadband connection.
No, it's not my browser (or a need to "clear my cache").
No, it's not only happening to me --- it's happening to at least half
a dozen others that I know of --- and they are from totally different

And here it is:

It has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with my "anti-virus" software. And, in
fact, suggesting that it might is completely ridiculous. And the
funniest thing I've heard all week.

Next?

WRONG WRONG WRONG (for several reasons and on several levels).

A clue you may have missed:

Absolutely unacceptable and something that NEVER (ever) used to happen
in the pre-"Windows Live Hotmail" environment.

Care to try again?

Oh, Puh-leeese! Tell us again how Hotmail, or any other Free Web-based
email, *NEVER (ever)* used to act up in the last decade or two!

If you don't like the suggestions, fine, but you don't have to be a self
righteous know-it-all jacka** about it.

No one in these groups works for MS
so your chances are about zero that
we can fix it. These are groups of users
who help each other find fixes if they
exist or offer workarounds. We don't
fix MS software directly. If you really
want to get it fixed, contact Microsoft.

Sorry. I lost the keys to the access door for the server room. It will be 30
days before a locksmith can get here; or so says the Indian help desk (tech
support just moved to Mumbai last week, but they had trouble finding the
place because a lot of the signs still have "Bombay" written on them).

All kidding aside, I rarely use MSN/Windows Live Hotmail; rarer still to use
it from the web interface.

Free mail providers seem to be in the toilet the last couple of weeks.
Yahoo! Mail has been having difficulty moving their SMTP/POP3 users to
secure ports. Especially for POP3 access ('pop.mail.yahoo.com:995' w/SSL).

In a world that will one day (in the very near future, actually) be
close to 100% WEB SERVICES based, it's amazing that you would pooh-
pooh a thread dedicated to exploring potential current issues with
"Windows Live Hotmail" --- if you knew even the tiniest little thing
about the direction MS is taking with its LIVE product-line, you
wouldn't be making these asinine comments.

Clearly, you're living in 1997.

Or earlier.

So --- anyone from Microsoft reading this and want to FESS UP that
you're having... ahem... periodic issues with "Windows Live Hotmail"?
I don't care if you won't admit it publicly. Just fix it. Thanks in
advance.

And BTW - the "suggestions" so far were completely LAME, not at all
helpful, and showed a fundamental lack of understanding of the current
environment.

But thanks for trying.

Funny that, cos this isn't the Windows Live Hotmail group.

Please post your gripes in the appropriate newsgroup.

"Funny" but these groups are the groups people post WINDOWS LIVE mail-
related issues to. This now includes WINDOWS LIVE HOTMAIL. Got it?
You're not keeping up with the LIVE product line, are you? Of course
you're not.

Add this coming up far too frequently TO THE DEFECT LIST:

"Is this taking too long?
Try the classic version
If Windows Live Hotmail doesn't load, refresh the page, or try
deleting the temporary Internet files in your browser's cache."

Thanks in advance.
