Could someone please help with a small annoying problem, I’m having with WORD
and OUTLOOK ( Outlook is using MS Word as its email editor ) I’m using
Windows XP (with all current updates ) and MS Office 2003. The problem
started last week, and I can’t seem to find out what happened.

Here is the minor yet annoying problem. Say I type a line of text “ How are
you today†for an example. Before if I highlighted the word “are you†and
then hit the back space, the words “are you†would disappear. But now when I
highlight them and hit the back space key, the highlight ( black background )
goes away BUT THE WORDS ARE STILL THERE. Yes I know I can highlight them and
hit the delete key, yes that works, but why doesn’t the backspace Key delete
a highlighted area anymore.??? Or how do I re-enable the delete function for
the backspace key, (which begs the question of how did it get disabled?)

Any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated .

Have you tried the Office, Word, and/or Outlook newsgroups?

Tool>Options>Edit>"Typing replaces selection" has that effect. Is the box
unchecked? If so, check it.
