How Is This Document Protected? I Think It's Possessed!

Using Word 2003
Someone sent me a document that I have to make some changes to and it’s
being stubborn. When I try to backspace or delete something, it doesn’t work.
Then when I open the Tools menu, I see “Protect Document.†When the document
is protected, doesn’t it show “Unprotect Document†in the Tools menu? I don’t
know what else to do with this doc. When I copy and paste over all the
contents to a new doc., the formatting is a mess. I only want to make some
minor changes to this original doc. and I cannot. Is there a way around this
mess? I’m ready to pull my hair out!

Create a new, blank document. Then use Insert | File to insert the trouble
document into your newly created file. Does that improve things?
