Just wondering how come so many people post in this newsgroup but it seems
that most of the posts are not replied and people still try to post.

People post b/c they want help. The post's that arent replyed to means that
no of use know that answers. Almost everyone that post's answers in here
are doing it on our own time. No of use get paid to do this, we just like
to. But if we dont know the answer, or you post in the wrong newsgroup your
question might not get answered.

The biggest problem is that people post in the wrong group. Microsoft has
newsgroups for almost every product they sell.
(http://support.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.aspx) also people try to
get support for third-party applications here to, which no of use know
about, thats why we suggest they contact the maker of the program instead.

If your question or someone's doesnt get answered you might want to consider
calling Microsoft for support.

yeah i totally agree but i just think that the amount of posts here that are
not answered are about 70% more than the posts that are answered. I know
this post is a good way to get some general questions answered but its
sometimes discouraging to see that the amount of posts that are unanswered
is pretty phenomenol.

The great majority of posts *do* get answers. Most even get
multiple answers.

If you are not seeing answers to most of the posts, there must be
something wrong with your news feed, or your use of your
newsreader.

Here here.
I generally contribute to 3-5 posts for every 1 I post.
OH- how do I restore thumbnails :)

Any advice given is my attempt to show appreciation for all
the excellent help I've received here but I'm no MVP so it
may only apply NUGS. Personal attacks, nitpicking & criticism
of anything but content will NOT be responded to. Those
posters should spend their time taking the test @

Several reasons:

1. No one knows the answer.

2. The question is poorly worded and/or no detail provided so it's
impossible to answer what you can't understand. Personally, if I see 100
lines all in one paragraph I won't even bother to read it.

3. The sheer volume of messages here means that probably very few people see
all the posts. I download 500 headers at a time and I know I miss threads
because the number of new posts exceeds 500 by a bunch.

One does what one can.

Try downloading all the headers, and not just the default number.
The sheer volume of posts to these groups would not allow you to see all the
replies to posts using 300 to 500 headers downloaded at a time.
I find it hard to find many posts that do not have replies.
See the link in my sig for tips to configure your newsreader for these
groups.

Kelly - u r workin 2 hard. 'how do I restore
thumbnails' was a tongue-in-cheak on 'just how many
times do you think that a person can answer the same
question without getting frustrated?'

Perhaps u misssed ':)'. I use alot of ur excellent
tweaks/fixes so just keep-up the good work!

Best Regards
Larry

Then you have some setting askew, because, I can't find many posts without a
reply.
The general XP group headers has a footprint of 627 MB (657,625,295 bytes)
with a full download.

A lot of the difficulty is that people seem to expect instant answers
and post the same question again, half an hour or so later. And post
again. And again. That puts the count up - and means that I for one do
not bother to answer, realising that by the time I do (maybe hours later
because of Time Zone effects, and the general load) they will not be
coming back to look. So why waste my time? There are also many too
many posts that are simply intended to annoy and disrupt. Take all
these out, and I think you will find that the number of coherent
questions that get no attempt at an answer is not that many.
