Theme Background Color-Change?

G

Guest

Sadly when I did my website I chose a "theme." I like everything I've got,
but have decided to change the background color of all pages, but am denied,
because the pages were done using a "theme." It's probably a dumb question,
but how do I protect, not loose all the things I've got on my pages, and
simply change the background color of them? (is anything simple anymore?...I
like simple :)

Modify the theme and save it as a new theme name then apply the new theme to your pages

Modify the theme to have a different background colour.
Open a page with the theme, then Format->Themes and choose customize.
When finished changes, save as with a new name, then apply the new theme
to all pages. If you don't save with a new name all your changes will
be lost.

Thanks to Stefan and Ronx for their help. I successfully removed the theme
color from my website, replaced it with black and had fun changing other
elements so all would look good.

Just one little ittsey bitsy thing..... :) I changed the linkbar properies
and made my font colors all match the linkbar. Everything looked so so
good....then.......Surprise!!.....when published, the linkbar looks totally
different from what it did in design view......

Yes, Online. First I "Preview in Browser" and it looks as it should, then I
"publish" and after publishing, it's a totally different navigation
bar,,,,completely different. The Link Bar I chose has mustard gold
rectangles with black text. What comes out after publishing is a link bar
with no rectangles, and the text is bright purple!!
By the way, in my FP, my link bars and not identified by name or number.
(I'm using FP2003-11.6552.8132 SP2, and my server is a SharePoint server)

If you are using a custom theme or style for your navigation bars, you
have to apply the style to the remote website - that is the online
website. Applying the style only to the local copy does not always
publish to the remote site.

The purple text indicates you have visited all the pages. If you delete
your Internet Explorer history the links will display in blue.

Ronx......THANK YOU!! It worked! How did you get so smart???
My website now has the correct link bars thanks to you .... I did get an
error message though, not sure if it's important or not....?? "Server error,
server extensions were unable to access the file: (the file reference is the
file in "my documents" where I keep a copy of the website) .... Please check
the file permissions. Contact your Internet Service provider or web server
administrator for more info."
Is this error message important?

ah oh..... very strange...the first time I viewed the site online the links
were perfect. That's when I wrote the message below. After that the links
changed. No longer did each link containing text, have the gold rectangle
behind it, now there's no rectangle, only the text. But, hey...it's a whole
lot better than before and I'm happy. Don't understand it, but it's fine.
Before you told me how to do this, I contacted my server about the problem,
and here's what they said....possibly this explains it....you tell me.....
Server: "This sounds like a feature that our extensions
for Front Page probably do not support. Unfortunately, because our servers
are not Windows-based, we can only fully support Front Page extensions up
through version 2002."

I'm using version 2003....I'd be interested to know what you think...

There are no extensions after FrontPage 2002. FrontPage 2003 uses
FP2002 extensions, both on Windows and Unix.

The error indicates there is a link somewhere to a file on your PC that
needs to be sorted out. The 2002 extensions on Unix should support
custom styles in link bars, since this feature has not changed since
FrontPage 2002.

Try opening the online site and running Tools->recalculate hyperlinks

Hi,
I did what you suggested, opened the online site and ran Tools, recalculate
hyperlinks. I got a message telling me this might take a few minutes, do you
want to continue, I clicked yes... If anything was happening, I couldn't
tell, and I noted later by checking my Problem file, that nothing changed.
On the other hand the site looks good, everything is working online very
well, maybe I should take the attitude, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Hi, I found an old posting about this problem about link bars not showing up
online as they do in FrontPage....and tried it. It was the SAVE each page
that I didn't do previously.....I'm happy to report that now my custom link
bars look exactly like they should published online. Ron Symonds told
someone on 7/14/2005:
"Open a page containing the link bars and remove them. SAVE the page. Then
re-insert the link bars and SAVE the page. This ensures that the theme used
with the link bars is correctly uploaded to the server."
Thanks to all.....

It's sure strange......If you want to view my site, it's :

you can be would be so appreciated.......

| Custom Link bars (nav bars) must be done online in FP on the server
running the FP 2002 SE

|| Thanks to Stefan and Ronx for their help. I successfully removed the
theme
|| color from my website, replaced it with black and had fun changing other
|| elements so all would look good.
||
|| Just one little ittsey bitsy thing..... :) I changed the linkbar
properies
|| and made my font colors all match the linkbar. Everything looked so so
|| good....then.......Surprise!!.....when published, the linkbar looks
totally
|| different from what it did in design view......
