Go to the Power applet in the Control Panel. Do you have an APM tab? If
yes, check the box to enable advanced power management.

hello again i follow your advise but the system..
isteand to turn off reboots

okay... uncheck the option and check with the manufacturer of your
motherboard/computer to see if they have a BIOS update.

I used to have the APM in that area to begin with and
somebody has played with something as my system used to
close down in XP BUT now it doesn't, How do I get the APM
TAB back there?
HELP
And Thx heaps

Gordo, I don't know if this is relevant to your situation, but I found it on
this forum, dated from a week ago:

"You don't have an APM tab becuase your system supports ACPI, a newer
version of power management.
ACPI is more robust than APM and is already enabled.
ACPI allows you to reassign your Power Button functions
and shut off the computer automatically."
