The Swift Blue Screen

My specs:

Windows XP Home Edition
512 MB RAM
3.0 GHZ Pentium 4
ASUS P4P800-X Motherboard with Seagate Hard Drive 80 Gig

This problem all started out when I first shut down the computer and turned
it on again. When I reach Windows XP loading, it gives a brief sight of it,
and then SWIFTLY shows a blue screen, then it restarts. Then I go to the five
options (Safe Mode, Last Known Good Configuration, etc.) No matter what I
press from the five, it restarts and goes back to the same situation. I felt
desperate so I used the Windows XP CD to do the repair function. After
finishing, I went to the Windows website to download the latest updates.
After I gather them all, I clicked on install and restarted the computer.
However, when I reached the Windows XP screen, AGAIN it doesn’t load at all
and quickly flashes the same blue screen and restarts again. I picked on
Start Normally, but it just restarted again and again. Finally, I clicked on
Last Known Good Configuration and I was able to get in. However, when I got
in, I checked the latest updates, they were downloaded but not installed. I
figure this happens because this was the Last Known Good Configuration…..

So I risk it again, and I press install and restart. Thankfully, I was able
to get in now. A huge sigh of relief.

Why did this happen? Is this a software issue or a hardware issue? Now when
I turn on the computer it might occur again. Please reply. Thanks in advance.

Two things you might want to do in your attempt to troubleshoot
this issue:

First, go to Control Panel and double click System.
In System Properties, click on the Advanced tab.
In the Startup and Recovery section, click on the Settings
button.
In the System Failure section of Startup and Recovery, remove
the check mark from the box next to Automatically restart.
Click OK twice.

Now, when a blue screen is displayed, it will remain on the
screen. Record the information in the error message. It may
provide you with clues that you can use in your research.

Second, look in Event Viewer for any entries under Application
or System that may be related to your problem. You can access
Event Viewer through Control Panel -> Administrative Tools.

Good luck
