The problem is wider!

The problem appears to be not specific to the Firewire
card.

I just tried to install a RAID controller and get exactly
the same problem - the new hardware is recognised but
during the driver installation I get the error
message "The data is invalid".

What is going on with my system???

This is a known registry protection
prob with XP

You have to go to start/run, and type
regedit Jorg. Then go here.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\PCI

Under this you'll see VEN_xxxxxxx

You'll have to click on each of these (the +)
to find the device(s) that's playing up.

Once you find it, highlight it, right mouse
button and permissions. Tick full control
for whatver device(s). This will hapen
with ALL PCI devices you chuck into
your PC. Once you tick full control,
quit regedit, then reboot. Then XP
SHOULD install the drivers, for those
device(s).
