My problem is I am unable to open a specific web page, namely www.amazon.com
and the sister page www.amazon.co.uk. When trying to access the page I get
the message at the subject. In all other respects the browser (IE6) appears
to act normally. I can access these pages using Firefox.
I am running WINXP Pro SP2. I can access these pages using my laptop that
is also running WINXP Pro SP2. Both machines connect to the net using the
same ADSL router. As far as I can tell the machine with the p[roblem is
free from viruses (Kaspersky and NOD32 plus Trend online scan) and from
spyware (Ad-Aware 1.05, Spybot).
I have reloaded IE6, loaded Sun Java, run Windows repair and sfc \scannow
( not in that order ) to try to solve the problem without result. Also
tried to access the pages with all programs closed (EnditAll) and AVPs and
software firewall (Sygate) shut down.
I have posted this problem in the
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.IE6.browser NG but have not received
any response. I note that in that group there are posts that indicate that
others are experiencing similar problems, that is not being able to access a
particular URL but having no other problems.
Other than a clean installation of WINXP, does anyone have any other things
I could try. At present I am at a dead end.
