The mrtRate service failed to start error??

K

KG

I have been receiving the following error in Event Viewer, System for some time.

The mrtRate service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

Source: Service Control Manager
Category: None
Error Event ID: 7000

The fix as per MS is to reinstall and then remove Quicken 2000. Of course I no longer have a copy
of Quicken 2000, I can not find mrtRate.vxd in the reg nor any startup. Any suggestions??

It's a known issue with the driver. Go in the Device Manage and disable
the mrtRate driver.

Thank you for the response. The problem being that although mrtRate.vdx is a driver it does not
show in device manager nor anywhere else that I can find. It is not that big of a problem it looks
like I will just live with it. Thanks again

It's a hidden device, did you follow the instrutions to "Show Hidden
Devices"?

Yup, it's not shown under hidden devices. That's the problem, by all appearances there is no
mrtRate.vdx installed but something is calling for it on startup and I' am unable to find what is
doing the call for it.

I suggest then that you contact Intuit/Quicken tech support for
assistance. You can also use Autoruns to see if you can find its
startup entry point:

Thanks John, Autoruns worked great for me. I found the mrtRate under
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services and nuked it.

You're welcome.
