mrtRate service failed to start

Phil Rabichow

Hi All:
I have Win XP Pro & checked the Event Log which showed the following errors
(twice on 1 day):
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7000
Date: 7/17/05
Time: 10:41:58 AM
User: N/A
Computer: RABICHOW
Description:
The mrtRate service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

In checking Help, it said:
Product: Windows Operating System
ID: 7000
Source: Service Control Manager
Version: 5.0
Symbolic Name: EVENT_SERVICE_START_FAILED
Message: The %1 service failed to start due to the following error:
%2.

I don't know what file it's looking for, but how do I fix it?

[[mrtRate belongs to QuickBook or Quicken. Do you have them installed in
your Computer? mrtRate belongs to the Automatic update service of Quicken.
You can disable the Background Automatic Service of Quicken, by following
these steps:-
1] Start Quicken.
2] On the Edit menu, point to Options and select Internet Options.
3] Select Don't use Background Downloading and click OK. ]]

Hi Wes:
Thanks for this. After I posted here, I continued to search. For what it's worth, the solution for
Quicken 2004 is a little different than the http://castlecops.com/t125475-Event_log_error.html solution,
as there is no background downloading in 2004. However, the KB article 810905 is right on point.

Thanks again. I appreciate your time.
