It all depends on how much you spend on the system. I've
been in several hospitals (visiting) and the critical
equipment had the same kind of UPS that I have for my
computers. Ten minutes. If I have a UPS for the computer,
I'd rather wait a few minutes for the generators to kick in,
often power outages are fixed in just a few minutes or they
take hours.

I can't help wondering, why is that so many Linux Trolls, such as
yourself, feel the need to boast of their systems' up times in their
signatures? I also can't help wondering why these up times are
measured in days and hours. My Windows' machines have up times are
measured in weeks. If I was only capable of an up time of only a
couple days, I certainly wouldn't be bragging about it.

Nice post, but Jim Macklin never wrote any part of what you

If any of your drivel mattered I might be insulted. I just post where I want and only a moron would really care so much as you do.

Joh N, is that a typo because you have trouble with John?

Just noticed my error on the date, I'm too used to writing
2004, it was 2003 of course.

That tree behind me was taken out by a tornado three weeks
ago.

I think I'll stop reading this thread, put it on my ignore

Because that's about all the scripting they know how to do.

I am well aware what computers are capable of. Judging by your severe
lack of maturity, I've worked in technology quite probably longer than
you've been alive. I've built data-acquisition/control systems that ran
a lot bigger stuff than home electrical and surveillance systems. Just
because something is possible doesn't mean it's necessarily a desirable
thing to do. I wouldn't want my home controlled by a PC.

As far as your immature attempts at insults go, the negativity you
express towards others will come back to bite you some day. Eventually
you might actualy grow up and realize that fact.

It puzzles me Bruce how you could possibly know what Joh N.'s or anyone
else's reason(s) are for putting anything they decide put put in thier
signature, especially when you haven't asked. It appears you have an agenda
of your own when you make assumptions like that. I think it is entirely
possible that the linux system uptimes in Joh N.'s signature do not always
display the uptimes his system is capable of, simply for the fact that many
knowledgable people like to tinker with their systems. Install upgrades,
hardware, software, update drivers etc. If any of that requires a reboot,
the clock will be reset. Also possible is that his system dual boots, and
is rebooted when access to the other system is required. These are all good
reasons for rebooting which do not have any reflection on your assertions as
to what his OS is or is not capable of. Your views sometimes seem limited
and biased.

Your reading comprehension seems to be no better than that of your
hero, Kurttrail. If I were presuming to "know" why Joh N. were
placing the information in his signature, I wouldn't have preceded
each sentence with the phrase "I can't help wondering..." In simpler
terms, I was asking "why," out of idle curiosity, so many Linux users
do this. Why Linux aficionados are monitoring Windows newsgroups is
another mystery, as well.

All Joh N. need do, if he feels so inclined, is offer an
explanation. Although, now that you mention it, I'm sure that if the
explanation had been one of those possibilities you've suggested, he
would have said so, rather than falling back on the standard technique
of offering personal insults.
