MS Plus Media Edition File Storage ??

C

Caldy

hi all. i'm new here and did a google search of winxp forums
and found this forum.
i figured this would be a good place to ask this ?.
i hope i picked the correct forum to ask this in.
if not, could the mod or admin. please move it to the correct 1.
thank you and here goes:
i'm trying to locate where the data files for the
MS Plus Media Edition Alarm Clock files are stored.
i have 20-30 alarms stored and occasionally i lose those alarms when
i have to force xp home to shut down or bypass normal shutdown.
(don't ask, i over oc some times p*ss pottin around & go to far, lol)
anyway, when that happens i lose all of the alarms i have set.
very time consuming re-entering.
3 calls and loads of time to ms support come up absolutely blank.
suprise.
when i back up the whole program or individual files and folders,
it doesn't restore my alarms.
i have searched all files & folders in my comp, the registry,
windows,sys32, etc.
by name, date, time of alarms, alarm clock, plus, plus media edition,
etc.
(you get the idea)and have come up dry.
i searched ms site and come up dry.
i googled every possible way i could think of & the only thing
that seemed even remotely relavent was a reference to the alarm clock
and sleep timer being tied into media player 10, if that's even
relevant.
i've searched all files individually and can't find anything.
the only thing i can think is they are compressed or
encrypted or something, somewhere other than the alarm clock folder.
i'm just baffled that ms support has no clue where
the data i input(alarms) may be stored.
i really like and use this program, but manually entering
the alarms every time i have to force a re-start is becoming a major
drag.
this by the way, is the only program that gets borked on a forced
re-start.
sorry for the long post, i just wanted to provide as much usefull info
as possible.
thanks in advance for any help, it's much appreciated, caldy.

There is a Plus newsgroup.
microsoft.public.plus

Have you tried doing a System Restore?

Caldy

thank you for the quick responses ron & kelly.
kelly, i did the same google search previously, in all the
various different wording i could think of and opened all found sites
for 25 pages each time and nothing pertinent to the file storage
folders.
thanks for your time involved though.
if that's your website that you linked to, it's a great 1.
i've visited it several times. great job.
ron, i appreciate your help to the newsgroup page and the restore
suggestion.
i have tried the restore feature, but the stored alarms don't come
back.
i also have searched the newsgroup as well as the other newsgroups
& so far nothing pertinent.
i've tried to ask the ? there, but every time i go to sign
in, an error page comes up.
after spending the hours on the phone with ms india support(sucks),
i needed a slight break before i call again to find out what this error

i'm getting when trying to post is.
i think i'll phone them again this evening or tomorrow evening to
see if they can be of any help with that problem so i can get this
posted.
so far, 2 recent problems, with 5 contacts made & ms india support 0%
batting average.
evidently, my time involved only matters to me.
my prevoius contacts with ms support, when they were in the usa
were all resolved in a timely manner. every 1 of them.
by the way, 1 little tidbit, 5 previous contacts for support &
all cases marked as resolved by ms india support.
i read somewhere that they are paid by the cases resolved, so they
will mark as many cases resolved as they can to get the $'s up.
great idea i think, if your on the receiving end of that $, lol.
evidently, $ rolls in so easy for ms, it's not worth checking to see
if the offshore support is actually supporting their products.
stockholders value up, support way down. the new america, lovely.
they did call me with a survey concerning support.
i gave them low, but fair marks & told them of the support problems i
encountered.
they asked if i would like a follow-up call by a manager or someone, i
can't quite remember.
they never called. it's been 2 wks.
either they are awfully busy calling unhappy people, or just don't
care.
i really think the 2nd 1.
i apologize for the small rant. just my frustration.
thanks again for the replies, i appreciate them vey much.
my ears and eyes are still open.
i'm still hoping someone out there knows where this file\folder may
be.
i'll post if i find anything from the newsgroup or anywhere else,
so if anyone else needs this info, at least it will be searchable
in this fine forum.
my best to you & yours, caldy.

Dates and time are stored in number format.
The date is started on January 1, 1900 and the time is a fraction of a day.
Nov/6/2005 6:00 PM would be stored as 38662.75

If a system restore didn't bring the alarms back, then I doubt if the alarms
are stored in the Registry.

i'll do a registry search with the couple of alarms i have set with that
format
just in case.
how would i go about actually figuring the # format if i may ask?
i see the start as you point out & how this date & time are stored,
but
my brain isn't allowing me to figure the corolation, lol.
at least i will be able to rule the registry out.
this is the most help i've gotten yet with this ? and it's much
appreciated.
thanks ron, caldy.

Let's say Friday at noon.
Friday is 5 days from today.
38662 + 5 = 38667
Noon would be .5 of a day
38667.5

I don't know what type of Registry key would be used.
dword, hexadecimal, ?

Have you tried the microsoft.media.plus newsgroup?

hi again, ron.
thank you for the info.
i set the alarm for the date & time you gave.
did a reg search for that # & found nothing.
evidently, not kept in registry.
i was finally able to post on the ms.media newsgroup yesterday.
passport error kept me from being able to do so.
after 4hrs. with 6 different support personel,
i was given an e-mail address for msn.passport support.
that issue finally resolved.
you would think after the 1st support personel couldn't help,
they would have given me that web address instead of wasting my time.
gotta love that offshore support.
it's working real well from what i've seen.
anyway, have my fingers crossed & doing chants in hope of someone
in the newsgroup or 1 of the many forums i've posted this ? in will
find the answer to this.
if you or anybody out there comes up with anything else for my problem,

my ears are still wide open.
i definately need to find this storage place.
thanks again for your efforts with this, it's greatly appreciated,
caldy.
