The latest Vista screw up

Ok just click a mailto link on a page.

What happens then is just part and parcel of the WOW experience.

After about 10 secs it comes back and tells me that mail client is not
correctly setup. So I click Ok.

Then (WAIT FOR IT). Over 50 windows with Explorer cannot open page show up.
Nice. Close all those and go to set the program. Of course this has
changed so I have to go to control panel version of things. I look at
window mail and it says it is correctly setup to handle mailto:

Of course it isn't. Really MS get it together. There is nothing I repeat
nothing to recommend this terrible piece of ..... (fill in your own word).

So I look for virus etc. But how could I get one being protected by MS
Defender / OneCare????

Adaware won't run on Vista.

And by the way I just wanted to send an email. I remember when an OS did
what you wanted to do, not with MS wants to do.

PEBCAK - Problem exists between Chair and Keyboard. I can click on a link
and sucesfully send an e-mail. You just can't figure out how to set it up.

This is a common "bug" and has been around
before Vista.

It's multiple Internet Explorer windows that open up
after clicking the mailto link. I've had this happen before.

Try resetting the default email program. Make sure it
has all it's defaults.

If that doesn't work, have a look at this;
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/MailtoProtocol.htm

If you do need to add the mailto entry to
the registry, after doing so make sure you set the
email defaults again.

Hi Lloyd,

I can't comment on your problem as it hasn't happened to me, but the
comments I have read should send you in the right direction.
As far as "Adaware and Vista" goes I have no problem whatsoever with running
adaware on my Vista Business. Maybe you have an older copy so download the
latest version and you should be alright.

Darn it! Mailto: links work just fine here, I wanted some of that WOW.

Seriuosly though if anyone needs help with a problem your having,
people will respond a lot better if you just ask for help instead of
jumping to conclusions like "If it doesn't work on my system then
Microsoft messed up.......it can't be anything I may/may not have done"

Bob,

You have to be careful using Ad-Aware on Vista right now. The site
states it's NOT "Vista ready" yet. Others have reported problems
installing it.

As Michael says, this is not a Vista issue. In fact, I have it on my XP
machine, and despite much searching and trying, uninstalling and
reinstalling, haven't been able to get rid of it.

Luckily, my Vista machine is fine in this regard. But I do feel your pain.
