MS Fix IE7

L

Lloyd Sheen

Am I the olnly one sick and tired of IE7 just restarting at will. And now
it leaves a transparent (the content portion) dialog. What a piece of crap.
I have disabled all add-ins. Got rid of OneCare. The only thing not gotten
rid of is Vista and it is proving to be a terrible user experience.

Any ideas, have read lots of posts but since MS does not seem ready to help
are there other ideas (other than another OS).

Since this post 20 mins ago, it has rebooted 3 times.

This is so close to criminal at least in ethics. MS get your act together.

What a piece of unadulterated crap Vista and its versions of MS products
that worked just fine in XP.

I have held off for a couple of weeks to see if Vista would do anything for
me to recommend it. Well I guess not. Replaced MS virus checking with 3rd
party so that I could keep my internet connection but IE still reboots every
20 mins.

What A Joke Vista Is.

I know of two causes for the vast majority of such problems:
1. Incompatible add-ons: What if you right click the IE icon on the desktop
and choose Start Without Add-ons?
Or go to Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Internet
Explorer (No Add-ons).

2. Malware already installed on the computer: Help with malware

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing Messenger Plus, whose ads for
malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince you that you
owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.

Did you verify with the hardware and software manufacturers everything you
have is supported in Vista?
Did you use the Upgrade Advisor?
Is Vista a Clean or Upgrade installation?
Do you have all the latest Vista drivers for all hardware?
Do you have the same issues with a Clean Installation of Vista or only after
installing other programs.

"Replaced MS virus checking"
Exactly what would that be?
One Care is already removed and there is no other anti virus from Microsoft.

Yes , I have according to all manufacturers including MS.
Did you use the Upgrade Advisor?

Yes and then when the install failed was told by MS support that it and the
install don't really find the same things (ie it is fairly useless)
Is Vista a Clean or Upgrade installation?

After upgrade failed a Clean install from a clean XP install.
Do you have all the latest Vista drivers for all hardware?

Same as first question
Do you have the same issues with a Clean Installation of Vista or only
after installing other programs.

This problem started from the time Vista was ready to use.

By "IE reboots", I assume you mean that IE 7 stops working and then restarts
(minus all your loaded pages of course)?

Check the IE Options\Advanced\Security\Enable memory protection to help
mitigate online attacks. If this option is enabled (disabled by default I
think), then IE 7 will be more crash-prone due to incompatible resources and
add-ins.

Thank but this option is disabled.

Only two restarts this morning in about 30 mins of use.

MS where the hell are you and what are you doing about this complete set of
problems you have unleashed with Vista? I am still waiting for the MS
service rep to phone me (I have gotten confirmation about this call several
times but no call).

Hi,
I have the same problem, you should be lucky enough as it atleast takes
30 minutes for I7 to stop and restart, thi si wat happend to me,this
was a clean installation, using vista ultimate, most of the features
that i use is of no use,end up in crash,
Did a clean installation, tried accessing webpages, able to open the
home page,no mater how long i access webpages, when ever i try to
access or login to any accounts online, like gmail, banking account, even
forums IE7 stops and restarts, which is a pain, the downloaded version
of IE7 on XP works great, had no issues, thought that it could be an
issue accessing secured websites,IE crashes every 5minutes of
accessing regilar websites.
