Outlook 2003 sp3 Vista

Sue Levene

Hi,

I am running outlook 2003 sp3 and Vista. When I click on a mailto link, it
runs Windos Mail instead of outlook.

When I try to change the mailto protocol, outlook is not there.

Please help.

Start menu, Default Programs. Click the first option: 'Set your default
programs'.
Hopefully Outlook will be in the list (it is in mine). Select it and click
'Set this program as default'.

Alternatively, if you open Outlook it should offer to set itself as your
default email client, unless you've previously se it not to.

It doesn't show up in the list there either. Can I manually get it to show
up in the list. I have selected as default everywhere I can find it, it will
even open up windows mail when I click on a mailto link inside an outlook
mail item.

arrggghh!

Thanks -- Sue

Try this.

IE\Properties\Programs and for the email use the little dropdown arrow and select Outlook. Hit Apply on the bottom and back out

She should also check this (if she hasn't already):

Go to Control Panel > Default Programs and click the bottom link ("Set program
access and computer defaults") and approve the UAC prompt. Expand the Custom
section and under "Choose a default e-mail program", look to see if Outlook is
there.

Then go back to the "Set your default programs" link (top), highlight Outlook
and click the top green arrow at the bottom of the window to set Outlook (if it
is now
listed) to have all it's defaults. Click OK.

Hi Sue,

Download and apply ol2003.reg from here:
http://www.winhelponline.com/fixes/ol2003.reg

This should restore Microsoft Outlook entry to the Default Programs tool. Note that the file paths are hardcoded for C:\ in the REG file.
