The firewire connection does not work at all.

Hi all,
I run XP pro SP3 and i have handy cam Sony dcrtv33e. I tried a few
times to conect to the laptop (which has a firewire connection , 4
pin) but does not work at all. Using the USB stream it works but the
quality of the clip is very poor. I did everything i knew, also
noticed on the net that a lot of people have the same problem. One guy
is using XP without SP1,2,3 and said that it works. I did not try it.
I have ordered an IEEE-1394 Firewire Card/34 to try this way too.
Any help is wellcome.

There are some post SP3 hotfixes you should apply that might help.
They are free. Don't worry that they are not specific to your issue,
updating the component files they contain is what's important.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/955408
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958149
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/960970

At the top of each page you'll see "Hotfix Download Available
View and request hotfix downloads", click the link, follow the
instructions, and you'll be sent a link to the hotfix. Let me know if
it helps.

It's also possible that your Firewire card may need a newer driver?
What make and model is it?

Applied only two hotfixes the other one is MSU file, I do not know how
to apply it. Unfortunately nothing worked. I will try IEEE-1394
Firewire Card when i will get it.

I'm guessing that this was for 958149. When you click on 'View and request
hot fix downloads' it takes you to a page that shows only the Vista fix by
default. If you click on 'Show hot fixes for all platforms and languages
(27)' the XP selections will also be visible.

My motherboard has a built-in Texas Instruments 1394 chip and 2 firewire
ports. Have SP3 installed. I use imaging software to a firewire drive as
target. Should I install KB958149's hotfix?

I ask that as imaging data movement is essentially streaming.

CDOs are how we got here.
A modified version, new taxes in the future, is how Congress will get us
out?

It might benefit you to apply it, yes. And putting on KB955408
wouldn't hurt either.

Noticed the registry method of implementation is flawed (if verbatim)
compared to my PC's registry. There is no "CCS", its called
CurrentControlSet. Is your registry similar?

I have 1394 on my laptop not on the PC I am using now. What's the key
you're referring to?

The key noted for registry implementation of the Texas Instruments firewire
fix in the KB article you provided the link for. C'mon, dude.

Argh, sorry. Sleep deprivation. Yes, CCS is CurrentControlSet. Seems
the boys at Redmond are sleep deprived too. ^_^

The Firewire ExpressCard/34 arrived. I plugged it, the system
recognized it, but when conected the cam nothing happened. Is not
working with this one too. Is really frustrated. The only thing i left
to do is to install a fresh copy of XP without SP 1,2,3, if is not
going to work the camcorder could be faulty,(the firewire side)
Thanks all of you for your help.
