I have a video camera connected to my computer using an IEEE 1394 firewire.
When I try to capture video from my video camera it will only run for about 5
minutes and then the capture program appears to stop. The video camera is
still running but it is no longer capturing the video. I also notice that the
camera doesn't appear to be recognized by the firewire card any longer and
the only way to get it back is to reboot the computer. I have tried a couple
of different capture software and get the same results with both. When the
capturing stops, the capture programs appears to lock up and become
non-responsive. Now this was working and has been working for many months
without any problem. Last week I noticed that a number of Microsoft update
where installed which may have caused the problem. I understand that there
are a number of known issues with XP SP2 and firewire and that there are a
number of hotfixes which are only available by contacting Microsoft support
which solve this problem. However, before I spend the money to open a support
call I want to be sure that it fixes the problem and that the problem wasn't
caused by the updates that were pushed down to my computer
