The database has been placed in a state by...

hi,
I'm using Office 2000 SP3 + latest patches on Windows XP SP2

Each time I try to open an existing database or create a new one i got this
error message:
"The database has been placed in a state by an unknown user that prevents it
from being opened or locked"

If I copy a database from this computer to another one, running same Access
and Windows version, I am able to open the database.

I tried to unsinstall Office and reinstall it, I still have the same problem.

does anyone know how to solve this?

thanks

Hi Yannock,

*very wild guess*:

You have an AntiVirus setting that says
scan any mdb files on open.

Easy enough to test....
temporarily turn off Antivirus
and try opening db.

Else, look in dir of db. Do you
have a persistant .ldb file?

Apologies for wild guess, but had to ask.

Then, of course, there is another less-wild possibility...

do you have write/delete permissions on the folder
that the db is stored in.

Another easy test...

Start Notepad, type anything, then save in same
folder.

Open it again in Notepad, edit and save.

Go into Explorer and try to delete txt file.
