ACCESS 2003 SP3: "The database has been placed in a state by user

R

REMilk

I am the only person who maintains this database and it is on MS Access 2003
is on a single machine.

I am unable to copy table (structure and data) from one db to another; even
a copy of the original db.

Every time I get the dreaded "The database has been placed in a state by
user 'Admin" on machine "XXXXX" that prevents it from being opend or locked."

I have tried to lock everything, lock edited records, unlock everything but
to no avail. I have tried making a new database and copying the structure
and the data, but cannot copy & paste because of this problem. I( have also
tried to cut & paste from other databases into a brand new database and
continue to have this problem. This did not occur 3 weeks ago when I
performed the last maintenance on the db.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

First, does your database require you to login or join a specific
workgroup? If so, you will need to join the workgroup 1st before
doing anything.
Second, I have notice that sometimes the ldb file will get corrupt and
when you close it is still visible, if this is the case then delete
the ldb file and let access re-create it you should be able to get
back in and perform what you need.

Hope this helps

Thank you for your reply.

1. There is no logon for this PC, I am the lone user.
2. There are no .ldb files on the PC.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Dear Chris,

Thank you for the prompt reply.

1. Nothing is open in design view. In fact the only thing showing is the
list of tables.

2. I thoguht it might be corrupt, so I tried creating a new DB, I cannot
import anything into the new DB, this seems to affect MS ACCESS, not just an
individual DB. I also tried to alter the sample DB 'Northwind" and had the
same problems.

As a sidebar, to confirm what I think you are already suspecting, try opening
a copy of it on a different computer.
