The AntiSpyware Scan Doesn't Work

Jasmine

Hi! I just downloaded the AntiSpyware Program, but when I
went to scan my computer the window to the program went
blank and no icons or scan appeared! I've uninstalled and
reinstalled the Beta Program several times, but it's
still not working! Could it be something on my computer
that's attacking the scan? Can you please help?! Thanks

Get HijackThis.exe from
http://tomcoyote.org/hjt/hjt199//HijackThis.exe

Save it to C:\hjt (new folder) then Open it and select
Scan and Save Log. Note where you saved the log then
send it to me as an attachment. I can probably tell you
if you have an infection and what to do about it.

I'm having the same problem with MSAS not working, and
I've tried installing the VB6 service pack update, and it
still is not working. I have already tried uninstalling
MSAS and reinstalling after installing VB6 and still
nothing. Please help.

Ok, so we know the VB6 sp update doesn't help there. Here's some info to
help:

So you are receiving the classic 101 error too? It's an odd error that is
caused by several things... usually it because of a permission issue. An
update or a reinstallation will usually work.

Here's how to Update:

1. Logged in with admin privileges, open your Control Panel
2. Select Add/Remove Programs
3. Select Microsoft AntiSpyware
4. Click Change
5. The Maintenance Wizard will open. Select Next
6. Click Update Microsoft AntiSpyware
7. Select Install and the product will install
8. Click Finish
You can try killing the program and restarting it:

1. Hit CTRL-ALT-DEL -> open task manager
2. Select gcasDTServ.exe
3. Select End Process
4. Restart the antivirus program
The newsgroups have also been suggesting making sure your DCOM service is
started:

1. Click Start
2. Click Run
3. In the textbox enter C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost -k DcomLaunch
4. Click OK

If it is giving problems in every way without any of the solutions mentioned
not helping, uninstall it and wait until a more stable build or beta 2
arrives.

Are you installing as Administrator?

In the installation folder--typically c:\program files\microsoft
antispyware--there will be a file "errors.log."

Anything interesting in that file? Look for lines naming specific files
with error messages about not registering, etc.
