After a horrendous crash which lost a lot of unrecoverable programs, the item
ALL PROGRAMS is missing from the desktop list.
No big deal since I can right click on the desktop C drive icon and open all
the directories but I'm a hopeless neat freak and want all things to work the
way they're supposed to.
I tried to reinstall from the install CD but it won't accept the number on the
CD jacket. I opened System in the Control Panel where it shows an OEM number
but that isn't acceptable either.

Trivial I know but if I would like to fix it.

Sorry about the problems you're having. Do you mean All Programs in
the start menu? That setting is reached by right-clicking Start,
properties, start menu settings.

There are a number of programs that can bring up your key number. The
Belarc adviser is one (freeware).
