That Annoying Reading Pane

I do not use or like the Reading pane. I've had to turn it off manually
for *every* folder, and I've got lots of them. I'm pretty sick of any new
folder using a default view with the reading pane turned on. I've even
changed the default view to turn the reading pane off yet when I create a
new folder it turns on the damn reading pane for that folder.

Now is there any way I can completely disable this disgusting feature that
some assinine product manager decided that we all needed and couldn't live
without?

How can I change the default view so that new folders will not be using it?

How can I globally turn this blasted "feature" off so that I don't have to
open each folder and make the change manually?

I'm pretty pissed off at Microsoft for forcing me to deal with a feature
that I do not like or need.

I'm soooooooooooo looking forward to an alternatative client (Thunderbird)
that handles contacts and calendar so I can rid myself of this pathetically
written piece of crap called Outlook. I'm running version 2003 and while
it has some cool features it is the most unpredictable and unstable version
I've ever used and I've been using it since it was first introduced and
even before as beta....

We've GOT to have an alternative to Outlook and soon!!!

Start outlook using the /nopreview switch.

I think we're talking about two different things..

Isn't "Preview" and the "Reading Pane" two different things? In Outlook
2003, Preview is referred to as "Auto Preview". I've already got that
turned off and fortunately it stays off.. The Reading Pane stays off
except that all new folders default to it being on. Opening up a PST file
defaults to the reading pane being on for ALL folders within it.

Well it works and thanks for the response. I think it's a klutz
workaround though and a lame solution. It's also confusing that a
"nopreview" switch would affect the functionality of the "Reading Pane"
when those features are marketed and implemented as two completely
different and separate features that do different things. And I'm annoyed
that I couldnt' find this solution when searching the KB for "reading
pane".

I still think Marketing has wayyyyyyyyy too much influence in product
decisions that negatively affect Microsoft's product line and reputation.
A prime example - Windows ME (Mistake Edition). The best thing the company
could do would be to fire Steve Balmer and the next 4-5 levels of
management underneath him (Brian Valentine, Kevin Johnson in particular)...
Greed just ooozes from that group. But that's just my opinion...

Thanks again

Bryan
