Text marked with "Do not check spelling..."

I copied somebody else's document and made some edits, then did a spell
check. At the end a message box said:

The spelling check is complete.
Text marked with "Do not check spelling or grammar" was skipped.

I didn't mark any text not to be checked. How do I identify which text has
been marked, and how do I clear this so the whole document will be checked?

Grateful for suggestions.

Select the whole document (Ctrl+A). Click Tools > Languages > Set Language.
Clear the check box for "Do not check spelling and grammar".

Nope, that does not work.

I have the exact same problem, and tried the "solution" suggested. Still no
spell check. When repeating the "solution" I noticed that the setting had
REVERTED to some areas set to ignore spell checks, obviously ignoring the
directive to remove that formatting from all the selected text.

The most frustrating thing is that in text blocks where ignore spelling is
not active, no spell checking is taking place.

I'm writing this down to a bug, as this behaviour makes no sense.
