Terminal Sessions freezing up

R

redback

Howdy folks,

I have a windows 2000 server with office xp installed, a small number
of users are having a problem where their individual session freezes
up, other users on the server are unaffected. After much
troubleshooting I believe the problem is being caused by word. Ending
the users instance of winword.exe unlocks the session. Setting outlook
to not use msword to edit email reduced the frequency of the problem,
presumably only due to reducing the amount of word usage.

Latest service packs and fixes installed for both office and windows.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks

Using Word as the default Outlook editor on a Terminal Server is
not recommended.

Deploying Office XP on Windows Terminal Services

In this dialog box:
Tools | Options | Mail Format tab
Change this setting:
Clear the Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages check box.

Installing Outlook in a Terminal Services Environment

Using WordMail with Terminal Services
Outlook 2003 and Microsoft Office Word 2003 can both use a large
amount of memory on the Terminal Services computer. If Outlook
users use WordMail as their e-mail editor, this option takes more
memory and, as a result, can affect the number of users that you
can serve simultaneously in a Terminal Services environment.
Although the default editor for Outlook 2003 is WordMail, you can
set a different default editor as part of your customized Outlook
deployment.
