Terminal Server Logon

Carrie

We have a Terminal Server set up and several users
connect to it without any problems. We have 3 users that
are unable to connect, it pops up a message saying Access
is Denied. We have checked permissions and they are all
set correctly. Does anyone have any suggestions.

Thanks

I am now getting the following error.
User without Admin Priveleges:
The system has attempted to load or restore a file into
the registy, but the specified file is not in a registry
file format.
Then Terminal Services exits.

If I add the user the Administrators group:
Windows cannot load the user's profile but has logged you
on with the default profile for the system.
DETAIL- The system has attempted to load or restore a
file into the registry, but the specified file is not in
a registry file format.

The folling error is in the event log:
RegLoadKey failed. The system has attempted to load or
restore a file into the registy, but the specified file
is not in a registry file format. for C:\documents and
settings.....\\UsClass.dat.

This is only happening for 3 of our 120 users.

Thanks

Have you tried giving these users a new profile?
One of these pre-SP5 hotfixes might solve the problem.

828153 - UsrClasses Hive Does Not Unload During Logoff Because of
an Intermittent Handle Leak in Spoolsv.exe - pre-SP5 hotfix

827825 - "Windows Cannot Unload Your Registry Class File" Error
Message When You Log Off Terminal Services

I'm not sure I understand what these hot fixes would
resolve for me. The error message is not the same one
that I am getting. Also, 97% of our users can log on with
out a problem. It's just that 3% that has problems.

That's why my first advice was to delete those profiles. Did that
help?

There are a number of profile-related problems. Most of them start
when you *save* the profile, but users tend to ignore that
message, since they are logging out anyway (my users tend to
simply turn off the computer when an error appears at logoff :-(.
The problem becomes more acute when they try to login again with
the profile that wasn't saved correctly. KB articles don't always
mention all error message, and most state that you *may* see a
certain message, or you won't see it at all (while still having
the problem - or not).

Is there anything in the EventLog on the TS when they try to
logon? If you see EventID 1000, source Userenv, have a look here:

http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?eventid=1000&source=userenv

Unfortunately, there's no information about your specific error
(although it is mentioned), but it will give you some background
to the problem, as well as a link to a troubleshooting page.

If that's because of an access violation, you'll have to reboot
the server.

Thanks for your help. I was able to fix this problem by deleting the
ntuser.dat, ntuser.dat.log, ntuser.ini, ntuser.pol files from c:\documents
and settings\<username> directory.
