Terminal Server and Preferred Licensing Servers

Hi-

I am having some trouble getting the preferred licensing
(or default) licensing server to work correctly. (refer to
KB 239107). Here's the scoop:

NT 4.0 Domain server - SBS 4.5 / no BDCs
Two 2000 TS servers running sp4
One 2000 "datasever" running the licensing service.

I have set the reg value as indicated in the article, but
users are still getting error messages about licensing not
being available. I log into the dataserver, load the TS
licensing program, and it initially does not show any
server as activated. I connect to itself, and it shows
activated. Then, users can get in. Any ideas on what is
going on?

I have read in other posts that in a mixed domain that the
license service should run under the TS server. I thought
with the preferred server setting I could eliminate this.

My concern is that if I place it on one of the two TS
servers, that one will (of course) be the one that needs a
reboot, or something. I had intended on a basic mirror of
the one server's programs on the second one. If the first
were to go down, not a problem, log in the second one.
Hence, my reasoning to place on the w2000 data server.

Our plans call for upgrade to 2000 on the PDC, but not
until June 2004.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Did you set the registry value on the terminal servers and
on the license server as well?

Oringially, I had only created the keys in the two servers. I didn't think this was required in the licensing server. I will try it. Is is best to use an IP address or an actual name (or does it really matter)? With some of these things, it seems that IP addresses just work better.

Just courious, why does the key on the licensing server matter? I would think that the licensing server would be advertising its location anyway. Any other words of advise are appreciated greatly for us non-IT professionals.
