Terminal Services Licensing service terminated with service-specific error 29

Bushapps

I have a SBS 2000 Server (DC) and a Windows 2000 terminal server
running. The TS licenses are installed on the SBS server. The
Windows 2000 server sees the DC fine. The licenses were installed
about 3 weeks ago after the 90-day period had expired.

All had been working well until yesterday. The Windows 2000 server
would freeze every hour or so, and the following error logged in the
eventvwr. The TS clients obvously get kicked out of their
applications.

Event ID 29
Terminal Services Licensing can only be run on Domain Controllers or
Server in a Workgroup. See Terminal Server Licensing help topic for
more information.

Article ID 277917 describes this error.

The licenses are installed correctly as per the article. I am stumped.

Any ideas on how to resolve this issue?

If Event 29 is recorded on your W2K Terminal Server, then the TS
Licensing Service is also installed on that server. And it can't
start, because it can only run on a DC. Just uninstalling it from
the W2K TS should solve the problem.
