tentative appointment

Hi all

I am working with OUtlook (2003) and exchange server at work. When you send
a meeting it only appears as tentative when it is opened (even if with the
read pane). Is it possible to make it automatically appear in the calendar as
Tentative once the meeting is sent.

I tried using a rule to make it mark as read when it enters the inbox but it
did not work.

Any suggestions (even if the answer is no!!) are gratefully recieved

Kind regards

Rexmann

No, because it's Outlook that tentatively accepts the meeting. If Outlook isn't running, no acceptance.

Thanks for the reply Sue but Outlook is running - If I send an email to
someone and outlook is running on their machine - I want the meeting to
appear as Tentative (as it does when the person opens the meeting emails) -

This is how it works in Groupwise and I wondered if it was possible to
achieve in Outlook.

Not sure it is?

Kind regards Rexman

The user would need to have Outlook set up to automatically accept requests (and Outlook would need to be idle a short time -- that's when it processes pending requests and responses). It's not something that you as the sender can control.

Hi Sue

Thanks for the response.

The automatically accepting requests is the bit I am having trouble with. I
am setting up for the people in my team at work so I don't mind if it is set
up on the recieving or sending end.

I tried setting up on the recievers account so it will use a rule to mark
all new email as read which I thought might then make the appointment appear
as tentative but this did not work. How do I set it up on the recieving
account to automatically accept the request (as Tentative)

Any suggestions greatly appreciated

Kind regards

Tools | Options | Calendar Options | Resource Scheduling | Autmatically
accept meeting requests and proccess cancellations

Hello all - I'm having the same problem. If I set it up to auto accept thru
resource scheduling, it ONLY works if person inviting me lists me as a
'resource'. I've tested it many times. The only way I've been successful with
items going to my calendar as automatically tentative is if I click on the
email at some point. I don't have to actually read the email, but I do have
to stop on it. That defeats the purpose because I want them to show that way
even if I don't get to that email.

Argo, do you have this setting turned on -- Tools | Options | E-mail Options | Tracking Options | Process requests and responses on arrival? That's the setting that turns on the "sniffer" that automatically processes incoming meeting requests.
