Temporary Internet Files Folder: location lost

G

Guest

I'm using W2K and IE 6.0 SP1 and I'm connected to a coporate LAN/WAN with a
proxy. At a certain time IE became very slow (takes minutes to build a
screen). We found out that in the settings the location for the Temporary
Internet Files Folder is "missing" i.e. nothing is shown. - After a reboot of
the Notebook the location is shown again and IE works as usual. After a while
(mninutes to hours) while normally working with the notebook the location is
lost again. Also removing the profile and creating it again nor reinstalling
the whole notebook does not help.
Questions:
1. could this be the reason for IE being so slow?
2. How can we fix it?

Thanks for your help.

Normally the location for TIFs is *C:\Documents and
Settings\Administrator\Local Settings* and you can put C:\ in your run box
to get there quickly.

I have 3 main suggestions for you:

1) Run System File Checker. If you have SP1 see the modifications in the
first link to make unless you have a CD splipstreamed to SP1.

Running SFC and Pointing SFC to Service Pack's Install Files on HD instead
of CD that RTM'd 10/25/01
http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html

Descript of SFC and WFP

2) Run Adaware and MSFT AS--they don't get all the spyware but they are
helpful.

3) You can download SP2 via Win Up or the Network Download on the MSFT site.
That should fix or replace the TIFS that are gone.

When IE is slow, always think about elminating spyware and running SFC to
repair damaged files and .dlls in XP and IE.

Best,
