Temp

I have a problem with CPU temperature. It has constant temp 60-70 degreese
and cca 2500 RPM.
First, is it normal temp? If it's not what should i do to level it down?
I have PC AMD Athlon 2.5GHz,1GB DDR, 80GB Maxtor, etc.etc.etc...

Thx!

No, that's much too high.

It sounds like you have either an inadequate CPU cooler, or what you
have is not making proper contact.

I'd remove the present assembly from the CPU... Thoroughly clean off
all the thermal compound... Re-apply a good thermal material and
re-attach it. Less is more when it comes to applying thermal compound;
you just want a very thin layer on both the CPU and the heatsync.

Make sure you have a tight connection when you remount it.

If after reinstalling your present CPU cooler, your temps are not
significantly better, invest in a new cooler.

As a point of comparison, my CPU at idle is 22c - 26c and at 100% load
it never goes above 44c. That's with a Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro,
on a Intel 3.4 Ghz Dual Core.

To add one more thing:
many times the heatsink is installed backwards, make SURE its on properly.

Yeah, mine runs at about 40 idle, and 50 to 60 under load. This is due
to the fact that I overclock, but that's much to hot to run.

hm...it seems that graphic card is also very hot! 62 degreese. Could that be
connected with CPU temp?

I'd say it's uncharacteristically high. I have an Athlon 2400+
(2000GHz), and even with ambient temps around 38C (heat wave and broken
air conditioner) I've never seen more than 53C from the CPU. Right now
I'm 25C ambient, 42C CPU. Granted, I'm not gaming.

You don't mention what you're using for a heat sink and fan. The
obvious answers are 1. try re-gooping the CPU/HS junction if you have
a decent heat sink and fan or 2. get a decent heat sink and fan if what
you have is cheap stuff.

Depends on what it is doing, and what model of card it is.

What graphics card? What CPU? Socket A CPU, the heat sink must go so
that step on cooler matches step on socket. For graphics card, 62 may not be
too high.

The absolute maximum operating temp for a CPU is 70C. Your's is way too
hot. You need a larger more efficient CPU fan/radiator assembly and
possibly better case cooloing.

Athlon XP is OK upto 90C according to AMD. Need more info for better
assistance.

Thanks. I will try with new heat sink...
