TCP/IP (pathping) works, IE7 fails

Following <http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314067/>, pathping works fine,
returns results for "pathping google.com", so the "internet" is up and
running, but IE7 won't display a web page. There's nothing wrong with
the TCP/IP stack.

What's a good approach to getting IE7 to load web pages? I've disabled
the windows firewall; the pc is riddled with virus's.

thanks,

Thufir

It is likely a DNS issue, sine the name doesn't resolve?.
Open a run command type in:
ipconfig /flushdns click [OK]
ipconfig /renew click [OK]
netsh winsock reset click [OK]
Reboot your machine, does the problem return?.
Go through these cleaning steps, since I don't know what approach did you
take to clean up your machine!.
Click Start >> Control Panel >> Double click Network and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options.
On the IE properties windows you will see these Taps:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs |
Advanced
Under General Tab clear your History, Internet Files and Cookies.
Then click on Advanced tab and scroll down to under the Browsing Option:
[&] Browsing
[ ] Enable Third-Party browser extensions (Req Rest) uncheck this box.
Then click on Programs Tab and click Manage Add-Ons and Disable all non
Verified Add-Ons (You should Renable them later one-by-one and see the
culprit and update it or remove it.
How to manage Add-Ons:

2... You need to be sure your system is clean from malware and Viruses by
scanning for them
Scan for malware from here:
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-gb/default.htm?s_cid=sah
http://onecare.live.com/standard/en-gb/default.htm
http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php
http://www.safer-networking.org ; for Spybot S&D

Run a scan from here on-line:
http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx
http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/default.asp?productid=symhome&langid=ie&venid=sym
Download Avast Cleaner from here:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-virus-cleaner.html
Lots of tools to download and disinfect your machine:
http://www.bitdefender.co.uk/site/Downloads/browseFreeRemovalTool/
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/tpl/v5
Run disk clan up and defrag in safe mode, does it help?.
P.S does this behaviour repeat itself with most website or just google?.
HTH.
