I have lost the double arrow to expand/reduce the
notification area in the taskbar in order to see or hide
icon.what should I do to fix this problem?

The Notification area does not size in that manner - at least not here.
But you can choose to selectively show the icons that it contains.
Right-click on it and click PROPERTIES|CUSTOMIZE. Also note the "hide"
checkbox at the bottom.
