Taskbar

Immediately after the auto update downloaded, minimized
programs no longer show in the task bar. I can ALT+TAB
and find them. This is a pain in the neck. And I did not
even have a choice in downloading this!

Can you be specific about what auto update was involved?

These groups are for support of users of the downloadable beta application
Microsoft Antispyware.

AutoUpdate does not distribute patches to this application at the moment,
although it does have its own update function.

There were a number of Critical Updates distributed yesterday, depending on
the Windows version you are running, and there was also a Malicious code
removal tool, which runs and exits.

You can check on the results of the Malicious code tool by looking for
MRT.LOG in %windir%\debug

When I turned on my comuter, it said that MSN had some
updates, do you want to complete them now. I said YES.
Like always, trusting Microsoft.
How do I know exactly what updstes were included, since
you automatically install them.
It is very frustrating to me. I have XP Home Second
edition.
Now when I minimize any program, they no longer show up in
the Task Bar, which is at the bottom of the screen. I
have to ALT +TAB to see them.

Perhaps there is a setting that I am not aware within XP
that will start putting minimized programs back into the
task bar?

XP Home Second Edition?!?!? I think you mean SP2 (Service
Pack 2).

Open programs not appearing on the taskbar sounds like
one of two possible problems.

1) You've resized the area accidently in which programs
are displayed on the taskbar, most likely by expanding
the Quick Launch area over the entire width of the
taskbar.

2) Windows has a serious problem. Take the computer to
someone who can re-install windows for you or throw it
out the window. Either will do.

Regards

Mark

The Windows UI is one of the bits of the product I know the least about!

So--you can still see the Task Bar, and you have it in the default position,
at the bottom of the screen.

The first of Mark's suggestions sounds reasonable to me, but I'm really out
of my depth here.

I'm going to pawn you off on somebody else:

You downloaded critical updates via AutoUpdate. These, by definition, are
Security Updates.

Free help from Microsoft PSS is available for problems caused by Viruses, or
related to Security updates and their installation, worldwide.

In the U.S. or Canada, call 1-866-pcsafety. Elsewhere, call the local
Microsoft subsidiary office. The call may not always be toll free
worldwide, but the help from Microsoft will be.

I don't believe that the problem you are seeing is related to the product
being supported in thes groups at all--it isn't available via AutoUpdate.
