Windows view (thumbnails) not appearing on taskbar

Suddenly, my Vista Home Premium 32bit laptop won't display window preview
thumbnails on the taskbar. When a window is minimized, its mini-title bar
appears at the lower left of the screen, just above the taskbar if auto-hide
is off, and under the taskbar when auto-hide is on.

The option to show window previews (thumbnails) is checked on in the dialog
box for taskbar properties. I am using Aero setting for Windows appearance.

After a restart, all is right with the world. Still don't know why the
problem arose.
