taskbar notification area

Several icons have disappeared from my notification area,
including :

- SQL Server Service Manager
- my favourite download manager
- Windows task manager
and others


On the Customize Notifications dialog they are shown as
past items.

I used to run these tools from the taskbar, but now I can't.
How do I restore them?

On the Customize Notifications dialog they are shown as
past items.

This may mean that the programs are no longer running or that the
Windows Explorer crashed in the current Windows session. Restart
Windows and if this does not bring the icons back try to start the
applications manually.
